An obscure silversmith in 1820 later created the first \u201cmodern\u201d dentures by attaching porcelain teeth to gold plates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Such experiments may seem crude, but they represented real changes. Many people in the late 18th<\/sup> century still used ancient methods for their \u201cnew\u201d teeth. Figures like George Washington wore ivory plates that housed pearly whites, while some Europeans got tooth \u201creplacements\u201d from the dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
