Are you looking to achieve a straighter smile? You don’t need to settle for teeth that you aren’t confident showing off. There are several teeth straightening options out there, like Invisalign. They have become popular throughout the years because of their many benefits, including the fact that they are virtually invisible! Read on to learn more about the Invisalign treatment process so you know what you can expect.

Consultation

Before you even begin your treatment, you will need to see your dentist for a consultation. At this time, they will determine whether or not you would make a good candidate for the treatment. Invisalign is an excellent option to correct a variety of misalignment issues, but it isn’t for everyone. Some people still require traditional orthodontic work to correct their bite.

Preparation

Once it is determined that you are a good candidate for the procedure, you can move on to the second step. Your dentist will take photos and dental x-rays. A model is then made of your smile so your dentist can make a customized plan just for you.

Receive Your Aligners

After just a few weeks, you will receive your aligners and your dentist will make some minor adjustments, like the addition of “buttons.” These are small, tooth-colored bumps that are made from a composite resin and placed on the front surface of the teeth. This helps to keep the aligners in place. Your dentist will also show you the best way to put in and remove your aligners. They will give you specific instructions so that you know how to care for them properly. In most cases, a new set of aligners is worn every two weeks.

Follow-Ups

You need to go to the dentist on a regular basis to ensure that everything is going as planned. Even with a detailed plan, teeth don’t always move exactly how expected. It is important to catch any issues early on so corrections can be made.

Final Refinement

After you complete your series of aligners, you might still need a few refinements. A few tweaks may need to be made in order to give you the results that you are looking for.

Retainers

At this point, your dentist will remove any buttons from your teeth, and you will be able to give up your aligners for good. Instead, you will need to wear a retainer to wear to keep your teeth from moving back to their original locations.

Traditional braces have their benefits, but Invisalign is a great solution for many people. By talking with your dentist, you can determine whether or not they are right for you. You will be showing off a straighter smile in no time!
